Noise Ordinance WHA?

WEDNESDAY APRIL 7th
SILENT SOUNDCLASH
feat. DJ MOTION POTION

For those unfamiliar with the concept of “Silent Discos”, they were initially invented so festivals like Bonnaroo and Glastonbury could go on late into the AM and not get shut down due to “waking the neighbors.” Sound familiar?

Patrons show up, are given a set of wireless headphones connected via Bluetooth to a transmitter, which is hooked up to a live DJ, in this case DJ Motion Potion, mixing up records and mashing up beats.

What we have Wed. Apr. 7th at Random Row Books is exactly this, exactly like a regular club party except there’s no speakers, no sub-woofers, no external soundsystem to speak of. Just hundreds of people wearing headphones and dancing. If you don’t have your headphones on, you can’t hear the music. You can flirt with that girl next to you. You could even talk on telephone in the middle of this crowd because it’ll be completely silent. All you’ll hear are the squeaking of sneakers dancing and the squeals of delight when our DJ does something clever with his mix.

In fact, if the weather’s nice, we might even throw open the garage doors to this one. Because we’re not going to be disturbing anyone.

This particular tour is called the “Silent Soundclash series”. The reason it’s named such is because they’ll be 2 DJs spinning on the stage during our show. And each one will be hooked up to a separate channel. Headphone-equipped party-goers will actually be able to flick a switch and change channels between the 2 DJs up on the stage playing. Pretty clever, huh?

One of the DJs is Motion Potion, sometimes known as “MOPO”. You might remember his name from when stopped through and played a surprise free gig over at Mono Loco last year. Others will recognize him from the Silent Discos he’s does regularly at Bonnaroo.

For a sense of what MOPO spins, click the below. MOPO likes the Funk, the Old School Hip Hop, 80s & 90s, Disco Hits, Top 40 Mash Ups and anything outta New Orleans. You’ll find his taste very accessible. he’s a resident at Bonnaroo for gosh sakes!
