New Best Recipe For Enjoyment: Jeff Vines 7/1

Yes, Jefferson Vineyards is known for grape-picking and tasty wine recipes. This is true. But this Sunday Afternoon, “THE NEW BEST RECIPE” coming out of their vineyard won’t just be their Cab Franc. It’ll be a 5-piece band — pickers as well — plucking instruments instead of grape vines.  NEW BEST RECIPE is the 2 – 3 year old project of a collective of local musicians playing traditional bluegrass, honky tonk and some choice rocking classics. The line up is often subject to change but the talent is always world class. This Sunday’s collective includes Luke Wilson (brother to Sons Of Bill) on guitar and vocals; Andy Thacker and Darrell Muller (from 80s bluegrass band Love Canon) playing mando and upright bass, respectively; Landon Fishburne (from Downbeat Project) on guitar; Stan Marshall holds it down on banjo and Jay Starling (Transmitters) putting elbow grease in his dobro. Imagine our mountainous backdrop + some Chardonnay Reserve + NBR’s sweet + a picnic basket & a blanket. We’d say that’s pretty good recipe for a Sunday afternoon right there.

Chamomile & Whiskey And Wine, Sun @Jeff Vines

Poetic lyrics, thoughtful tones, Appalachian thigh slappers and deft instrumentals, Chamomile & Whiskey is a band you wouldn’t be afraid to dub “eclectic”. What might on the surface — due to the instrumentation — seem Americana or Rootsy can, at any minute, transport you with an Irish jig or a funky pop tune. Born under the redwoods after Koda Kerle (guitar, vox) and Marie Borgman (violin) completed a cross-country tour, Chamomile & Whiskey (can you guess which is which?) returned to Charlottesville, found a rhythm section, banjo player and wrote tunes that are getting this town up off it’s buns. Since forming back in August ’11, they’ve gone from rocking  residencies to headlining venues to playing Campout East. Who knew mixing Chamomile with Whiskey could be such a blast? Check them out this Sunday when they play a free outdoor gig at Jefferson Vineyards, with support from local trio bluegrass trio Gallatin Canyon.
