Help Woolen Mills Bar Host Music Sept 11 @ 6 pm

Posted in Cancellations & Relocations, Magnus Music Presents, Rapture, Tea Bazaar with tags , , , on September 11, 2012 by jeyon

ATTN: Music Lovers, if you want to celebrate musical diversity in Charlottesville and witness our citizenry help maintain our status as a culturally relavent VA hub, join us in City Council Chambers and show your support for Black Market Moto Saloon at 6PM TODAY. The issue of whether or not the great new Woolen Mills Restaurant / Pub can add Live Music to it’s offerings is being revisited in the Council Chambers. For whatever reason a few months back, BMMS declined to file for a $1500 Special Use Permit and had to cease hosting live music, some of which were our very own Magnus Music Events. Since that time, they’ve paid for the permit, reached out to their  neighbors and installed additional sound reinforcement to further minimize their “sonic impact”. They’re definitely being proactive — not to mention, they’re easy to work with and perhaps most importantly, their very existence allows for musicians and music lovers a chance to mingle in a whole other part of town. Diversity!

Posted in Cancellations & Relocations with tags , , , , on February 17, 2011 by jeyon

Unfortunately, due to co-headliners Raindeer having caught a bad flu (the whole band AND their friends) at a show they played last week, Les La B must cancel their gig at Bossa Lounge in DC tonight. Don’t fret though, we’re gonna get up them back up to DC soon, probably with this same band and some other incredibles.

It’s interesting how musicians pick up and shed styles at different points in their career. We all know at least a couple punk rockers who now play country.

Take Wesley Eisold (second from the right), who put himself on the map 10 years ago screaming for hardcore bands American Nightmare and Give Up The Ghost –> Some Girls. Then after about 5 years or so, he put aside the crowd surfing to play thrift store keys (Ye Olde Maids / XO Skeletons). The screaming was still there, just distorted and paired with Casio beats. And instead of sharing bills with 5 other hardcore acts, he’d play with DJs. Fast forward in time, past successfully suing Fall Out Boy (for pinching some of his lyrics and published poetry) to right now — er, this Friday February 5th actually — when Wesley’s newest band, Cold Cave, play the Tea Bazaar in Charlottesville, VA.

Both Lotus and Carbon Leaf cancel November shows w/ Magnus Music

Posted in Cancellations & Relocations with tags , , , on October 16, 2009 by jeyon

After much searching and deliberation and patience on the part of the artists, their agents and management, Magnus Music regrets to inform we were unable to find an adequate venue(s) to relocate the orphaned Lotus and Carbon Leaf performances scheduled for 11/10 and 11/13 respectively at the now defunct-IS Venue in Charlottesville, VA. The Lotus show, fortunately, has found a home down in Southwest VA, in Blacksburg, at “Attitudes”.  No word yet as to where in Virginia Carbon Leaf’s scheduled 11/13 show might land. All tickets purchases for both these now canceled shows can be refunded at their point of purchase. Our sincerest apologies for inconveniences this has caused.
