LITTLE DRAGON RELOCATED TO TEA BAZAAR FOR MON. NOV. 23rd

Magnus Music is very pleased to announce Little Dragon will be playing here in Charlottesville on Monday Nov. 23rd, at the TEA BAZAAR. Originally scheduled for the Outback Lodge. This performance promises to astound and delight all those who attend. Serious consideration should be made to purchase advance tickets and to get to the Tea Bazaar very early.

For those who aren’t familiar with Little Dragon yet, think trip hop, think Esthero except faster, Tricky yet sharper and not as baked. Less “moody broody” and very easy to dance to. A 4-piece that sounds like a dance machine fronted by a hypnotic Japanese-Swede. Favorites from their recently release Machine Dreams have gone from “Feather” to “Blinking Pigs” to “Thunder Love” to “Come Home” to “Two Step” and it’s just not stopping! To say that we love everything about them would be an understatement.

Both Lotus and Carbon Leaf cancel November shows w/ Magnus Music

After much searching and deliberation and patience on the part of the artists, their agents and management, Magnus Music regrets to inform we were unable to find an adequate venue(s) to relocate the orphaned Lotus and Carbon Leaf performances scheduled for 11/10 and 11/13 respectively at the now defunct-IS Venue in Charlottesville, VA. The Lotus show, fortunately, has found a home down in Southwest VA, in Blacksburg, at “Attitudes”.  No word yet as to where in Virginia Carbon Leaf’s scheduled 11/13 show might land. All tickets purchases for both these now canceled shows can be refunded at their point of purchase. Our sincerest apologies for inconveniences this has caused.

Clearing Things Up About The Now Defunct IS

My apologies for my silence to those of you trying to contact me during  the last couple of days. I’m currently spinning a lot of plates, many of which are unfamiliar.

I can’t say much about the matter of IS Venue closing other than the business owner for both Si Tapas Restaurant and IS Venue wasn’t committed to any lease and it just so happened that his liquor license was to expire today (9/30).

It had nothing to do with the venue or the booking, other than maybe the alcohol sales of the venue itself weren’t enough to carry the whole place (of course, that wouldn’t be legal now though, would it?)

The building as a whole wasn’t going well. Attendance to shows was fine in most cases but the combined alcohol and food sales needed to keep the space afloat was not being generated, and the business  owner wasn’t willing to stay, dig in and invest in another year (or at least until the end of my show calendar).

So he decided to leave.

Needless to say it’s a shame this didn’t work out. It seemed like we were getting close to something good on the venue side. I can’t really speak for the food sales, you’d have to ask my associate Chris Dunbar about that. But I can tell you that although the food was very good, the location as we all know, is difficult. And so diners really weren’t flocking to the space. Of course I could have done more on my end and sold out more shows. Who knows? As owner Mo Roman explained to me more than enough times, “We could reflect all we want.”

I’ll be able to discuss this more once order has been restored in my life.

I appreciate the concern and all the wonderful things people have said about that little venue Magnus was fortunate to operate for almost a year. We’re a good town, we’ll get through this and we’ll continue to have live music, you’ll see.
